How to remove gum from clothing Untitled Document

Warm vinegar in the microwave them pour on the gum. Wait a minute or two then gently scrape the gum off with a butter knife. Repeat. The key here is that the vinegar must be warm to hot.

Steps   How to remove gum from clothing

Step 1:
Harden the gum by rubbing it with a cube of ice. You could also put the clothing item in the freezer for a few hours until it hardens. If you\'re in a hurry the ice cube will work quicker.

Step 2:
Scrape off what you can with a dull-bladed butter knife or another metal object without sharp edges that will rip through the fabric.

Step 3:
Rub the area with a pre-treatment enzyme product or liquid laundry detergent. Some claim WD-40 or cooking oil does wonders if you rub it on the chewing gum. If you go that route make sure you wash the clothing item right away after to avoid stains.

Step 4:
Launder as usual

For more delicate materials, like wool, pull off as much as you can, then wrap the item in a plastic bag and place it in the freezer to harden the gum. This should only take a few minutes.
Or rub an ice cube over the gum as before to harden it.
When it is brittle enough, gently pull of as much as you can with your fingers. Be careful not to pull to hard or you may damage the fabric.

Some people recommend placing peanut butter on the garment prior to freezing it, because it does tend to adhere to the gum and make it easier to remove gum. The problem with this method may be that the garment ends up significantly stained. If the garment requires delicate handling, it may be stained beyond all hope of recovery due to the oils in peanut butter.

An alternative plan to remove gum is to take the garment to a reputable cleaner. They usually can apply solvents which will not damage the clothing, and will remove gum. This is an especially good idea with items requiring dry-cleaning, as they also require special care.

Freezing Method  - How to remove gum from clothing

   1. Fold the article so that the gum faces outwards.
   2. Place this into a plastic bag, making sure the gum does not stick to the bag. If you can\'t figure out a way to keep the gum from sticking to the bag, place the article of clothing on top of the bag.
3 Seal the bag and place into the freezer for several hours (depending on the size of the gum and the garment) until it feels frozen. If you put the fabric on top of the bag rather than in it, make sure there\'s enough room in the freezer so that the clothing isn\'t touching anything in there except the plastic bag it\'s sitting on.
