|How to remove warts
Warts are small, hard, round skin growths caused primarily by a virus. The preferred way to remove warts is to visit a dermatologist for professional treatments, but many people cannot afford that level of wart removal. There are several different methods to remove warts yourself, but be aware that proper wart removal can take several years and the warts could return at any time. If the warts are not particularly painful or disfiguring, then leaving them alone might be the safest course of action for some.
There are many types of warts, including:
* Common warts. These usually occur on the fingers, hand, knees, and elbows. They are bumpy and grayish-brown. They may have black dots that look like "seeds" in the center.
* Flat warts. These are usually warts on the face. They are flat and pink. Irritation from shaving may contribute to flat warts in men. In women, they may also appear on the legs for this reason. They often grow in clusters.
* Plantar warts. These are on the bottom of the feet. They are uncomfortable, like walking on a small stone.
It is important to remove warts as soon as they become apparent, to avoid spreading. Warts commonly group together to form clusters. Warts can be all shapes and sizes. Some warts, such as plantar warts (found under the feet) are hard and callus-like, whilst flat warts are smooth and have a flat surface. Warts can range in color from white to red or skin color.
Method- How to remove warts
First of all, it\'s important to know that warts on the skin (such as on the fingers, feet and knees) and warts on the genitals are removed in different ways. Don\'t try any home remedies or over-the-counter drugs to remove warts on the genital area. You could hurt your genital area by putting certain chemicals on it. You also shouldn\'t treat warts on your face without talking to your doctor first.
There are also several over-the-counter options. The most common ones involve salicylic acid. These products are readily available at most drugstores and supermarkets. There are typically two types of products: adhesive pads treated with salicylic acid, or a bottle of concentrated salicylic acid.
Removing warts with this method requires a strict regimen of cleaning the area, applying the salicylic acid, and removing the dead skin with a pumice stone or emery board. It may take up to 12 weeks to remove a stubborn wart.
Warts on the genitals may be treated with special chemicals that dissolve the warts. Some of these chemicals, such as podophyllin (brand names: Podocon-25, Podofin) or trichloroacetic acid (brand name: Tri-Chlor), have to be applied by your doctor. Chemicals such as imiquimod cream (brand name: Aldara), podofilox solution (brand name: Condylox) or fluorouracil cream may be applied at home, according to your doctor\'s instructions. These treatments may have to be repeated weekly until the warts are gone.
