How to get rid of skin tags
A skin tag is a growth consisting of a bit of skin that protrudes from the body. They are most commonly found in wrinkled skin or fold areas of the body such as the armpits, sides of the neck and in the groin area. Skin tags are also commonly found on the eyelids and around the eye. However a few factors are suspected: Irritation from skin rubbing together and chaffing, a resistance to insulin and the Human Papilloma Virus.
Home- How to get rid of skin tags
# Make sure the blade you use is sharp and sanitized (use an open flame, rubbing alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide), and cut as quickly and closely to the healthy skin as you can. Some bleeding may occur, but shouldn’t last for more than a minute. Tweezers may also be used to pull the skin tag off. Getting rid of skin tags this way will likely be painful, and you might want to numb the area first with an ice cube, or other cold substance.
# Skin tags in areas like the armpits, the groin, the chest, and the back (basically any area that rubs against clothing or other skin on a frequent basis) are prone to irritation, which can cause skin tags to worsen, and in turn cause getting rid of skin tags to become more difficult or painful.
There are several methods the doctor might use to get rid of skin tags. These methods are:-
* Cutting- the doctor will cut the skin tag away from the surrounding skin.
* Laser surgery- a small laser is used to remove the skin tag.
* Freezing- Liquid nitrogen is applied to the tag, causing it to freeze and fall off.
* Cauterization- this is done by burning the area to remove the skin tag.
Traditional Treatments - How to get rid of skin tags
Suture
The skin-tag may be sutured by wrapping suture around the skin-tag and cutting off the blood supply. The skin tag falls off in about two weeks. The problem with this treatment is that it leaves the "root" of the skin tag, and it may grow back or leave a raised bump in it\'s place. This also can be a painful treatment.
Cryosurgery or Freezing with Nitrogen
The skin-tag may be frozen with liquid nitrogen but will require several visits to the doctor\'s office. Liquid nitrogen is applied directly to the skin-tag in order to freeze the growth and destroy the tissue. This procedure is very painful and in some cases requires that an injection of Lidocaine to numb the area before the freezing procedure can begin.
