Take a heavy diet three days before travelling but on the travelling day its better to fast. A high carbohydrate meal is highly beneficial.

Airplane cabins are dry, and a lengthy trip can cause dehydration. Dehydration worsens jet lag, and alcohol consumption worsens dehydration. "Alcohol is one of the most potent dehydrators. So avoid taking alcohol while traveling in plane.

Bring a pillow. Sometimes it is uncomfortable to get complete rest in the air, but you will certainly rest better if you bring along a bean bag neck pillow and and eye mask.  It helps. Drink fluids - Remember to keep hydrated by drinking plenty of fresh water. Avoid consuming alcohol; it may relax you in the short term, but can exacerbate the effects of jet lag through dehydration.

Get Sunshine- Expose yourself to the sun of the new time zone. This will  help your brain adjust to the new time zone and ease your body into an awoken state when the sun is out, and a sleep state when it sets. Lack of sunlight will maintain an offset sleep schedule.

Get enough sleep. Shortchange yourself on sleep before your trip, Dr. Ehret says, and you can just about count on making jet lag worse. "Give yourself about 15 extra minutes of sleep each of the last few nights before you travel." Enough sleep is really one of the best home remedies for jetlag.

A high carbohydrate meal will make it easier to sleep either on the plane or at your destination. However, if you need to be alert, eat a high protein diet.

Among the remedies that are offered to combat jet lag are sleeping pills, which may put you to sleep until you arrive at your destination. This can, however, make you groggy upon your arrival.
