Jaundice is a condition in which yellow discoloration of the skin and mucous membranes occur due to an increase in the bile pigments, namely, bilirubin in the blood. In many cases, yellowness in the white part of the eyes is more obvious than in the skin.
Home Remedies for Jaundice:
The green leaves of radish are another valuable remedy for jaundice. The leaves should be pounded and their juice extracted through cloth. Half a litre of this juice should he taken daily by an adult patient It induces a healthy appetite and proper evacuation of bowels, and this results in gradual decrease of the trouble. In most cases, complete cure can be ensured within eight or ten days.
All fats like ghee, butter, cream and oils must be avoided for at least two weeks, and after that butter and olive oil may be kept down to the minimum. A light carbohydrate diet, with exclusion of fats, best obtained from vegetables and fruits should be taken.
Home remedy for jaundice: add 2 teaspoons of oregano to one cup of boiling water, leave for 10 minutes, filter and drink.
Tomatoes are valuable in jaundice. A glass of fresh tomato juice, mixed with a pinch of a salt and pepper, taken early in the morning, is considered an effective remedy for this disease. One of the useful and simple home remedies for jaundice.
Take a few fresh papaya leaves and make a paste. Take about 1/2 tsp of this paste and mix with 1 tsp honey and consume it everyday.
The leaves of snake gourd have also been found helpful in jaundice. A mixture of the leaves should be prepared by mixing 15 gm of dry leaves in 250 ml of boiling water. Next, a decoction of coriander seeds in 500 ml of water till one-third reduces it. The infusion should be given in doses of 30 to 60 ml, mixed with the decoction of coriander seeds, three times daily. One of the well liked home remedies for jaundice.
Finely grind some bel leaves. Take 1 teaspoon of this paste along with a pinch of black pepper and follow it with 1 cup of buttermilk thrice a day.
Boil 1 cup of water, when it boils add 8-10 lemon leaves. Cover and leave for 4-5 minutes. Drink the decoction for 4-5 days.
Make a fine powder of 1 teaspoon each crushed licorice root, chicory seeds and rock salt. Take 1;2 teaspoon with water twice daily.
A mixture of almonds (badam), dried dates (chhuhara) and cardamom (chotti ilachi) is regarded as an effective remedy for jaundice. Four kernels of almond, one dried date and two small cardamoms should be soaked overnight in water. This is one of the effective home remedies for jaundice.
The outer coating of the almond kernels and the inner seeds of dried dates should be removed the next morning and the whole material should be rubbed into a fine paste. Then 25 grams of sugar should be mixed in it and the patient should lick this mixture.
One glass of sugarcane juice, mixed with the juice of half a lime, and taken twice daily, can hasten recovery from jaundice. It is, however, very essential that the juice must be clean and preferably prepared at home. Resistance is low in jaundice and any infected beverage could make matters worse.
