Itching is a common and disabling problem in patients with a healed burn wound and affects 40 to 50 percent of burn patients. Itching is most common in a burn that takes over three weeks to heal.

Itching, medically known as pruritus, is caused by stimuli bugging some part of our skin. There are a lot of places to bother on the body, too. The average adult has 20 square feet (2 square meters) of skin, all open to the world of irritants.

Bath with a little peppermint or yellow dock. It is an effective remedy to get rid of itching.

One natural remedy to use in the bathtub that is very soothing to itchy skin is to soak in an oatmeal bath. It may sound strange but oatmeal is excellent for calming inflamed skin that you just want to scratch off your body. You can simply buy porridge oats from the grocery store (such as Quaker Oats) and add them to a lukewarm bath. A cup or two should be fine.

Treat itching using vinegar - Add half a cup of white vinegar to your bath water and soak for 5 minutes.

Application of mixture of lemon juice and coconut oil gives good result in itching. This is also said to reduce the inflammation from the skin. This is one of the best home remedies for itching.

Treat itching using tea tree oil - When you have an itch you just can\'t get rid of apply tea tree oil to where the itch is. My mother used to use this on me when I was little and now I use it on my own children. It gets rid of the itch immediately.

Cold or cold wet compress are effective in providing relief to severe itchiness. The affected part should be wrapped with thick soft cloth. The cloth should be moistened with cold water every 15 to 30 minutes for two hours at a time. The bandage should be left intact to keep the cloth cold. This is very useful and effective home remedies for itching.

Tamarind (Imli) pulp which is a common item in most South Indian kitchens is a life-saver in cases of moderate to severe itching. Soak the dry tamarind pulp in water for a few minutes and then squeeze out its paste to apply on the affected areas. This provides almost immediate relief. This is one of the effective home remedies for itching.

You may grind guava (Amrud) leaves with a teaspoon of turmeric (Haldi) powder into a smooth paste and apply it on the affected parts.

Increase your Vitamin C intake. Many do not realize that Vitamin C is the best form of natural anti-histamine for your body. It can be as simple as taking an extra orange or grapefruit. Going for natural Vitamin C is best. However, if you need to supplement, make sure it is from organic sources. Your body knows the difference between organic and synthetic vitamin C.
