It definitely soothes sore throat and stuffy nose for a while. It is very simple to prepare. All you need to do is to microwave or boil water along with a lemon wedge in it. Then add honey and stir in after squeezing the lemon wedge. Sounds simple right, but it works great.

Take 1 tbsp of pepper powder and boil it in a cup of milk. Also add on a pinch of turmeric to it. Put some sugar for taste. Drink it once in a day for about three days. It is one of the effective home remedies for common cold.

Take three or four times daily at the most a tea made from one tablespoon of fenugreek seeds, seven black peppercorns and one teaspoon of fresh minced ginger, which were boiled in two cups of water until one cup remains. Black tea may be added, as may sugar.

Natural home remedies for common cold is to put 2-3 drops of salt water in your nose in the morning and before going to bed. Salt keeps the nasal passage moist; the saline solution also helps thin the mucous so you can get rid of it at regular intervals.

Mustard oil to which you have added 4-5 cloves of chopped garlic. Apply this on your nose, chest and back just as you would a bottle of Vicks. Cover up and sleep.

Garlic juice made by adding few drops of garlic oil to a teaspoonful of onion juice and diluting it in a cup of water is helpful for common cold. This is one of the natural home remedies for common cold.

Lemon juice is a good source of vitamin C, which is important for proper immune system function. Herbal teas, made from mullein, sweetened with honey and lemon can be very soothing to the throat and can temporarily open clogged breathing passages.

Horehound tea can also be used to relieve coughs. Green tea has been the subject of a number of studies and has been shown to effectively increase energy and metabolism. Honey should not be given to small children.

Ginger is another excellent remedy for colds and coughs. About ten grams of ginger should be cut into small pieces and boiled in a cup of water. It should then be strained and half a teaspoon of sugar added to it. This decoction should be drunk when hot.

Turmeric is an effective remedy for colds and throat irritations. Half a teaspoon of fresh turmeric powder mixed in 30 ml of warm milk, and taken once or twice daily, is a useful prescription for these conditions. Turmeric powder should be put into a hot ladle. Milk should then be poured in it and boiled over slow heat. This mixture should then be drunk by the patient.

Apply a fine paste of drumstick leaves with a pinch of lime at the base of the throat at bedtime. Combine this therapy with a salt water gargle for a sore-throat caused by common cold.

Chewing on cardamom soothes the throat and clears any obstructing phlegm.

Regular intake of white radish juice with a tsp of honey is said to be effective in keeping colds at bay. This is one of the simple and best home remedies for common cold.

Camphor is used as a smelling salt in bouts of cold. Put a few drops on a hanky and sniff to clear stuffy nose.
