Jaundice is a condition in which yellow discoloration of the skin and mucous membranes occur due to an increase in the bile pigments, namely, bilirubin in the blood. In many cases, yellowness in the white part of the eyes is more obvious than in the skin.

Tomatoes are also helpful in jaundice. A glass of fresh tomato juice, mixed with a pinch of salt and pepper, taken early on in the morning, is considered an useful remedy for this disease. One of the popular home remedies for jaundice.

Roast a bottle gourd in embers and mash it, squeeze the juice out of it, add a little sugar candy and drink it. It is beneficial in jaundice.

It is blackish in colour. It is available with an apothecary. Soak 3 pieces of long pepper in 3 tsp. of butter milk. After 24 hours, grind the long pepper, add a little bit of salt and take it with water. Each day increase the number of long peppers by one.

The liquid extracted from Bitter Luffa is widely regarded as one of the best home remedies for jaundice. The juice is normally taken on the palm and pulled in through nostrils. This process causes a copious effluence of a yellowish liquid through the nostrils. One has to bear in mind that this is an extremely strong medicine and hence, has to be taken if prescribed by the doctor.

Juice two to three tomatoes each morning before breakfast (enough tomatoes to make a cup of juice). Mix the juice with a pinch of salt and black pepper and drink prior to eating breakfast. This is one of the oldest home remedies for jaundice.

Boil 1 cup of barley in 3 liters of water. When the water is cooled, strain off the barley. Drink a cup of this water 3 times a day to treat jaundice.

Avoid eating fatty, heavy, rich or oily foods when you have jaundice, as these are taxing on the liver. When you have jaundice, the liver needs to rest as much as possible.
