Tinnitus is the name for these head noises, and they are very common. About 50 million adults in the United States have Tinnitus. Tinnitus may come and go, or you may be aware of a continuous sound. It can vary in pitch from a low roar to a high squeal or whine, and you may hear it in one or both ears. When the ringing is constant, it can be annoying and distracting.

Dose: Put 2 drops of onion juice in your ears, three times a week, to stop the ringing.

Believe it or not, a heating pad on your feet and one on your hands may ease the ringing in your ears. It all has to do with blood being redistributed, improving circulation and lessening pressure in congested areas.

Mix It Up

In a blender, combine six large, peeled garlic cloves and 1 cup of almond oil or extra virgin, cold-pressed olive oil. Blend until the garlic is finely minced. Then clean a glass jar by pouring just-boiled water into it.

Once the jar is dry; pour the garlic and oil mixture into the jar, put the cover on and refrigerate it for seven days. Then strain the liquid from the jar into a clean eyedropper bottle.

At bedtime, take the chill out of a small amount of the liquid, then put 3 drops in each ear and plug the ears with cotton balls. Remove the cotton in the morning. Chances are, if the ringing is going to stop at all, it will do so within two weeks.

White noise machines that provide a low, constant noise can be effective. Background noise of television or radio can help dull the sound of tinnitus. Hearing aids are also effective in reducing or correcting tinnitus.

A new device called tinnitus masker worn like a hearing aid emits steady noise of wind in trees or hum of a fan- a sound that becomes familiar and can be ignored easily. Tinnitus is bothersome because of lack of control over the noise, and a masker gives back this sense of control psychologically and hence beneficial.

Avoid or reduce the intake of alcohol, caffeine and nicotine. These things restrict blood flow and worsen tinnitus.

Breathe deeply to dismiss distress. “Reducing stress often reduces tinnitus,” says Robert E. Brummett, Ph.D., a pharmacologist at the Oregon Hearing Research Center. Deep, slow breathing is one safe way to ease tension any time you feel it creeping up on you, according to Dr. Vernon. But he cautions that this may not be enough. See a counselor if you’re having difficulty dealing with stress in your life and your tinnitus is becoming worse because of it.

Skip the smokes and drinks. “Restrict the nicotine, alcohol, tonic water and caffeine you consume,” Dr. Brummett suggests. If you find that it helps to cut out one or all of these, consider a permanent vacation from the noise provoker.

If tinnitus is caused by some other ailment, then it becomes necessary to look into the root cause and work towards treating it. That ways, the problem of tinnitus will also be taken care of.

Sometimes, stress also causes ear buzzing. So as to reduce your stress level, take a deep breath.
