Home Remedies for Peptic Ulcers

Peptic ulcers are craterlike erosions in the lining of the stomach, the duodenum (the part of the small intestine just past the stomach), and rarely, the esophagus. Duodenal ulcers are about three times more common than stomach (gastric) ulcers.

Home Remedy of Peptic Ulcers

There are many home remedies for peptic ulcer that are a great help in soothing the pain associated with this medical condition. Bananas have been moved to the top of the list when it comes to the peptic ulcer symptoms. The banana can calm the acid inside the stomach and reduce the aggravation to the ulcer. Individuals who have a very bad case should try to consume a glass of milk and a banana or two three or four times daily. Goat’s milk and almond milk are also beneficial home remedies for peptic ulcer problems.

Bananas is the most effective food remedy against peptic ulcers as it neutralizes the hyperacidity of the gastric juices. Banana milk shake is considered the best. This is a good home remedy for peptic ulcers.

Drinking the almond milk made from blanched almonds is highly beneficial as it supplies good quality protein and also binds the excess of acid in the stomach. This is also effective home remedy for peptic ulcers.

Yoga asanas like vajrasana, uttanpadasana, pavanamuktasana, bhujanganasana, paschimottanasana are highly beneficial in the treatment of acidity.

Almond milk made from blanched almonds in a blender is also beneficial in the treatment of ulcer. It binds the excess of acid in the stomach and supplies high-quality protein. Raw goat’s milk is also highly beneficial. It actually helps to heal peptic ulcer.

Raw fruits and vegetables should be avoided for a few weeks, as many of these are especially irritating. Potatoes and squashes are, however, well-tolerated. All sour fruits should be avoided, especially citrus fruits.

Cayenne and Chickweed - You may also take cayenne and chickweed in a capsule form for the treatment of bleeding ulcers.

Honey - Honey soothes and reduces inflammation of the lining of the stomach. So you may take 2-3 teaspoon of honey daily.

Go by gut reactions. Highly spiced and fried foods, long thought to be prime culprits in instigating ulcers, are now considered to have little bearing on either the development or course of an ulcer. However, they do bother some people who already have ulcers. If you find that spicy meals, for example, are always followed by a severe gnawing pain, assume that there may be a cause and effect. The same goes for any other food that seems to cause you discomfort.

Give up the smoke screen. Although the results of research into the link between cigarette smoking and ulcers have been mixed, most medical authorities generally agree that there is a relationship between the two. Some believe smokers have double to risk of developing ulcers. Smoking increases stomach-acid secretion and inhibits the secretion of prostaglandins and sodium bicarbonate, substances naturally produced by the body that normally help protect the stomach lining (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs also interfere with the secretion of prostaglandins). Smoking also decreases blood circulation to the stomach lining (as well as to other parts of the body), which may negatively affect the lining’s ability to heal — and smokers’ relapse rate is higher than normal.
