Home Remedies for Insomnia
Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or waking in the middle of the night and staying awake, if this problem continues for more then a month is called chronic insomnia. Most of the cases of insomnia are related to normal day to day worries and tension or simply to caffeine consumption and is not a serious condition but it can be very frustrating, and can cause lack of attention and bad temper.

Mix one tsp of honey in a glass of celery juice. Have this juice every night before you go to bed. This will give you a sweet sleep throughout the night.
Teas made of passionflower, skullcap, lemon balm, catnip, lady’s slipper root, peach leaf, birch leaf, chamomile, hawthorn, or wild cherry bark have calming effects.
Drink a cup of warm milk with honey, nutmeg can also be added. The tryptophan in milk aids in sleeping.
Lettuce is beneficial in the treatment of insomnia as it contains a sleep-inducing substance, called ‘lectucarium’. The juice of this plant has been likened in effect to the sedative action of opium without the accompanying excitement. Lettuce seeds taken in a decoction are also useful in insomnia. One tablespoon of seeds should be boiled in half a litre of water, till it is reduced by one-third.
1 tsp of chamomile flowers, 1 tsp of hops, 1 tsp of valerian roots and 1 cup of boiling water – steep for about 45 minutes, strain out and drink the mixture just one hour before your routine bedtime.
Various yogaasanas that are effective in the treatment of insomnia are shirasana, sarvangasana, paschimottanasana, uttanasan, viparitakarni and shavasana.
