Regal Entertainment Group (NYSE: RGC) is the largest movie theatre chain in North America, operating 6,423 screens in 529 locations in 41 U.S. states. It was formed in Knoxville, Tennessee in 2002, when billionaire investor Phillip Anschutz acquired several smaller chains that had gone bankrupt at the end of the megaplex building binge of the mid-1990s. The company is currently based in Knoxville, Tennessee. Anschutz owns more than half of the company.

The industry has some big pictures coming out in 2008, but we’re not ignoring the fact that we’re going into a period with harder comparisons,” said Amy Miles, chief financial officer for Knoxville, Tennessee-based Regal, in an interview.
